VAN DE WETERING HAS DIED

Celebrated Dutch author Janwillem van de Wetering died in early July at the age of 77. According to the New York Times, the cause of death was "complications of cancer".

While he was born in the Netherlands and set his detective series there, Van de Wetering traveled widely and had lived in the US for many years, originally moving to Maine to join a Zen community. While that community later ended, he remained in Maine until his death.

Van de Wetering wrote several children's books along with his long running series featuring police officers de Gier and Grijpstra. He wrote other novels, as well as short stories and n0n-fiction, and created several radio plays based on his series characters.
