AUTHOR MICHAEL KILIAN DIES

Mystery writer and long time newspaper columnist Micahel Kilian died October 26 at the age of 66. His obituary by AP reported that he had been ill for about a year, but had kept working until a short time before he died. Kilian who wrote for the Chicago Tribute for more than 40 years, covered politics, including presidential campaigns. He was known and appreciated for his ability to cover a wide range of subjects within the political world, often relying on a bite of satire. Kilian was also the author of fiction and non-fiction, and wrote the Dick Tracy comic strip. He also wrote books using the name "Rex Dancer".

Kilian began working in journalism in the 60s. Between 2000 and 2005 he wrote five books in his Civil War Mystery series which begain with MURDER AT MANASSAS. He also wrote several books set in the Jazz Age of the 1920s, collaborated on the Dick Tracy strip and his non-fiction about the defense establshment and politics in both Washington and Chicago garnered praise.

Kilian will be buried at Arlington National Cemetary; he served in the US Army during the Korean War.

10/29 DC One day forensics event

On Saturday, The National Museum of Health and Medicine will host a two-part forensic program entitled, "A Museum Murder Mystery". The cost is only $15 and participants will have an opportunity to participate in a created crime scene as well as work on lab experiments designed to explalin various forensics skills.
Participants wii review such forensics issues as fingerprinting, DNA testing, handwriting analysis and identifying signs of trauma and unknown substances. Later in the day, they will study the "crime scene" and conduct experiments to analyze the evidence. Pre-registration is required, payable by check or money order to the National Museum of Health and Medicine.
