Cluelass is deeply sorry to announce the death of Dennis Lynds, who also wrote under the name Michael Collins. According to a story on Lynds' website, from the Santa Barbara News-Press, the author died on Friday, August 19, while visiting his daughter in San Francisco. The daughter was recovering from a traffic accident.

He was the author of more than 80 novels, and had received Lifetime Achievement Awards from both the Southern California MWA chapter and Private Eye Writers of America. Lynds was a well liked familiar face to many convention attendees and along with his wife, writer Gayle Lynds, had been chosen as Guest of Honor for Left Coast Crime in 2007, to be held in Seattle. His most famiiar character was private eye Dan Fortune who first appeared in a book in 1967 in ACT OF FEAR, which won the Edgar for Best First Novel.
