AWARDS ANNOUNCED AT LEFT COAST CRIME
Left Coast Crime took place Feb. 24-27 in El Paso Texas and the following awards were announced at the banquet on Saturday night.
The Dilys Award, given annually by the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association for the book they most enjoyed selling, went to DARKLY DREAMING DEXTER by Jeff Lindsay.
The Bruce Alexander Award for Best Historical Mystery went to THE WITCH IN THE WELL by Sharan Newman.
The Lefty Award for best humorous mystery was a tie. Winners were WE'LL ALWAYS HAVE PARROTS by Donna Andrews and and BLUE BLOOD by Susan McBride.
The Calavera award, given by this year's LCC for best mystery in the region defined by Left Coast Crime, went to GRAVE ENDINGS by Rochelle Krich.

BARBARA BURNETT SMITH DIES
Deadline News is very sorry to report the death of author Barbara Burnett Smith on February 19, 2005. Barbara died after being hit by a car. Her friend, Patsy Asher, who owns "Remember the Alibi" bookstore where Barbara and her husband were visiting, reported that the couple had come to San Antonio to pick up a dog they were rescuing. The dog escaped from the car and in trying to rescue the dog, Barbara was hit by a car and killed.
Barbara's family donated her organs to others in need. She was then cremated.
Information on the memorial for Barbara was posted on "DorothyL" by Jan Grape who said
A Celebration of Barbara Burnett Smith's life will be held on Thursday, Feb. 24th at 3:00 p.m. Services will be held at Unity Church of the Hills, 9905 Andeson Mills Rd. (512) 335-4449.
Barbara's husband, Gary Petry, has requested that anyone who wishes to, please stand up and talk of a memory of Barbara.
There will be no graveside service as Barbara has been cremated, but there will be a short reception at the church following the service.

AGATHA AWARD NOMINEES ANNOUNCED
Malice Domestic has just announced nominees for the Agatha Awards for the best mystery works of 2004. Members of this year's Malice Domestic will vote and the winners will be announced at the Malice Domestic Agatha banquet on April 30, 2005.
