MWA NAMES MARCIA MULLER GRAND MASTER

Mystery Writers of America has awarded its highest honor on author Marcia Muller.

The MWA board of directors will present Muller with the award at its gala 60th anniversary celebration on April 29, 2005. MWA President Michael Connelly said the choice was based on Muller's widely acknowledged role as "the founding mother" of the modern hard-boiled female private eye novel. This award comes 50 years since the first Grand Master was awarded to writer Agatha Christie.
Muller is a two-time EdgarŽ nominee, with fellow author and husband Bill Pronzini in 1987 for best critical or biographical work, 1001 MIDNIGHTS: The AFICIONADO'S GUIDE TO MYSTERY FICTION, and in 1994 for best novel, WOLF IN THE SHADOWS, which won the Anthony Award in 1994.
