Chester Himes Black Mystery Writers Conference
The Ninth Annual Chester Himes Black Mystery Writers Conference and Awards Program will take place on Saturday, May 1 at the Oakland Museum, 1000 Oak Street, Oakland, CA. Admission is FREE.
Guest authors presenting will be Robert Greer, Terris Grimes, Jackie Banks, Renay Jackson and Gary Phillips. They will present a discussion of many aspects of writing, from getting started and getting published to booksigning tours and maintaining a presence in the market. The conference will also present an contest award for writing to a high school student. Friends of Chester Himes has sponsored this conference for nine years to recognize published African American mystery authors and to promote literacy among teens.

THE POISON TEA PARTY 2004
A mystery writer's conference will be held June 18-19, 2004, at the Lamplighter Inn in Springfield, Missouri. Registration fee for event is $50.00 until April 15th, $60.00 thereafter. Basic hotel rate is $54.00/night which includes breakfast. Hotel phone is (417) 869-3900
Activities include: three speakers, a lunch, a dinner, and a mystery solving activity. Speakers include a forensics expert, authors and editors including Susan McBride, Denise Swanson, Marcia Preston and more. Conference attendees may participate in three mystery writing contests.
