British CWA nominees (and winners) announced
This year's nominees for awards from the Crime Writers' Association (UK) have been announced. They are as follows:
The Macallan Gold Dagger For Best Crime Novel:
- Scaredy Cat by Mark Billingham
- Jolie Blon's Bounce by James Lee Burke
- City Of Bones by Michael Connolly
- The Final Country by James Crumley
- The Athenian Murders by Jose Carlos Samoza
- Acid Row by Minette Walters
The Macallan Gold Dagger For Non-fiction:
- Anthony Blunt, His Lives by Miranda Carter
- Town Without Pity by Don Hale (with Marika Huns and Hamish McGregor)
- Dead Man's Wages by Lillian Pizzichini
And, although not short-listed because the judges felt it did not fall within the criteria of the award, they gave a special mention to Scene Of The Crime by Julian Earwacker and Kathleen Becker.
The Macallan Short Story Dagger:

- A Kick In The Lunchbucket by Sean Doolittle

The CWA JOHN CREASEY MEMORIAL DAGGER for best crime novel by a first-time writer was awarded to Louise Welsh for The Cutting Room. Highly commended was The 25th Hour by David Benioff.
The CWA DEBUT DAGGER, awarded to an unpublished author on the strength of an opening section of a crime novel and a synopsis, went to Ilona van Mil for Sugarmilk Falls. Carol Baier received honorable mention for her entry, Heaven's Door.
