Hammett Prize

The North American Branch of the International Association of Crime writers is pleased to announce that Alan Furst's Kingdom of Shadows (Random House) has been named the winner of the organization's annual Hammett Prizee for a work of literary excellence in the field of crime writing.

Other books nominated were Mystic River, by Dennis Lehane (William Morrow); Silent Joe, by T. Jefferson Parker (Hyperion); Right as Rain, by George P. Pelecanos (Little, Brown); and Hollowpoint, by Rob Reuland (Random House).

Mr. Furst will receive a bronze trophy, designed by West Coast sculptor Peter Boiger. The award ceremony took place Sept 27, 2002, in Philadelphia, during the Mid-Atlantic Mystery 2002 conference banquet.

Sherlock Holmes Weekend in Cape May, NJ

THE GAME’S AFOOT IN VICTORIAN CAPE MAY
The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) is hosting an event the weekend of November 1-3. Join Holmes and Watson as they come to town to help solve the mystery of "Sherlock Holmes and the Eye of Venus." Costumes are welcome, but not required.
Full weekend package available at $150/couple or $80/person which includes all events and brunch. The Search for Clues tour is available separately at $15 each. Fort Worth Book and Paper Show

On September 28 and 29, the 9th Annual Fort Worth Book & Paper Show will be held at the Will Rogers Complex, Amon Carter Jr. Exhibits Bldg, Fort Worth, TX. The Crime Writers' Association of Australia (CWAA) has just announced the 2002 Ned Kelly Awards. The full list of winners is available at http://www.thecwaa.net/. These annual awards are aimed at recognizing and promoting excellence in Australian crime writing.
