Southern Festival of the Book

An annual event (that seems always to conflict with Bouchercon), the Southern Festival will be held October 11-13, 2002 in Nashville, TN
For those not attending Bouchercon, or with lots of stamina or who call Tennessee home...Among the names of attending authors, you can find William Bernhardt Lisa Kleinholz, Jeffrey Marks, Susan McBride, Gregory Mcdonald and Patricia Sprinkle, Stuart Woods and Denise Swanson.

It's Award Season! Barry and Macavity Award nominees

The Macavity Awards are voted on by members of Mystery Readers International

Edgar Allan Poe Conference

The Second International Edgar Allan Poe Conference will take place October 3-6, 2002 in Baltimore, MD. The international event is being hosted byThe Poe Studies Association, in conjunction with the Poe Society of Baltimore, Goucher College and the College of Charleston will be devoted to the life and works of Edgar Allan Poe. Papers will be offered and there will be a tour of Poe's Baltimore home. The deadline for submitting papers has passed, but for more information, contact peeplesl@cofc.edu

MWA / SinC Writing Seminar in Greensboro, NC

Hal Rice has died

We are very sorry to report that Hal Rice has died, due to injuries received in a car accident last week. He was alone and we have heard that Sonya was not involved. Hal was a long time fan and, with his wife Sonya, Fan Guest of Honor at the 1998 Bouchercon in Philadelphia. One of mainstays of mystery fandom throughout the years, he will be sorely missed.

Anthony Ballot now available

The ballot for the Anthony Award, given annually by members of Bouchercon, the World Mystery Convention is now available. Members should be receiving the ballot in the most recent progress report, recently mailed out. It's also available on the Bouchercon website for download. Deadline for the ballot to be received by mail is September 30, 2002. Only people who have joined the convention are eliglble to vote on these awards.
