Kate Stine now the head of Mystery Scene

Ed Gorman and Kate Stine have announced that Mystery Scene will be published and edited by Stine, starting with issue #76, September 2002. Gorman will remain as Contributing Editor with a regular column, but says he plans to devote his time to writing that "long novel" he has always wanted to do. Gorman and Robert Randisi founded Mystery Scene in 1984, and Gorman continued as editor-in-chief with the support of business partner Martin H. Greenberg. Editorial and business offices have moved to New York:

BooksByThe Bay mystery panel

On July 20, 2002, the San Francisco, CA, book festival Books by the Bay will offer a mystery panel from noon to 1 p.m. entitled "An Hour of Intrigue". Panelists include Michael Connelly, Laurie King, Neil McMahon, and David Corbett, and it will be moderated by Cara Black.

Queens Honors go to terrific talents in the mystery field

The Jubilee Honours list, recently announced in England, included the names of two mystery favorites. Writer Ian Rankin, creator of John Rebus, has been named to receive an O.B.E., as has actor David Suchet, the talent behind the Hercule Poirot series that Americans have seen on "Mystery".

Edinburgh Book Festival - August, 2002

The Edinburgh International Book Festival will offer a strong line-up of mystery and crime writers, including Walter Mosley and Ian Rankin. Other mystery/crime authors attending include Quintin Jardine, Denise Mina, Manda Scott, Val McDermid and Kathy Reichs.

The Scene of the Crime

Scene of the Crime, Wolfe Island’s first annual crime-writing festival, will be held on Saturday, August 24 at 6:30 p.m. in St Margaret’s Hall.

Tickets for the event, sponsored by the Wolfe Island Business and Tourism Association, are $20.00 and include an old-fashioned roast beef church supper, homemade pie, and readings by professional crime writers and local celebrities.

Pens and paper will be provided at the dinner and there will be an open mike for budding writers who wish to share their own opening paragraph to a mystery story set on the island.
